As global supply chains face unprecedented strain and economic nationalism reshapes traditional alliances, world leaders are being forced to rethink the foundations of international trade. Tony Abbott, who championed free trade as Prime Minister and helped finalize landmark agreements with major economies including China, Japan, and South Korea, offers a candid and informed view on the future of global commerce. Drawing on firsthand experience navigating shifting trade dynamics in the Asia-Pacific and beyond, Abbott explores the need to balance open markets with national resilience, restore public trust in globalization, and ensure trade policy serves democratic societies—not just economic elites.

From the Indo-Pacific to the broader Western alliance, the global balance of power is under pressure from rising authoritarian regimes and waning confidence in liberal democracies. Prime Minister Tony Abbott has been at the center of this global conversation—as a national leader, a trusted international advisor, and a principled advocate for strategic clarity. Under this theme, Abbott explores our increasingly fraught world and unpacks what it takes to lead with conviction on the world stage. With deep insight into U.S.–Australia relations, defense policy, and the moral clarity required to face down modern authoritarianism, Abbott challenges audiences to think seriously about the kind of leadership the free world demands today.

In recent years, many Western societies have struggled with questions of identity, values, and purpose—often turning inward or adopting a pessimistic view of their own achievements. Prime Minister Tony Abbott argues that this crisis of confidence is not only economic but cultural, and that rediscovering pride in Western institutions, enterprise, and ideals is essential to revitalizing both. Drawing on his political career and his continuing role in public discourse, Abbott outlines a compelling case for reaffirming the principles of free enterprise, responsible governance, and shared national purpose. His message: Democratic nations must believe in themselves again if they are to thrive in a competitive world.

It was said to be politically impossible at the time, but Prime Minister Tony Abbott led Australia to become the only country in recent times to have stopped illegal immigration by boat. To date, halting illegal immigration by boat remains bi-partisan policy in Australia, and the country has re-established its sovereign borders since. Abbott reflects upon his experience challenging the status quo and shares lessons in leadership; taking other leaders on the journey of what was thought to be impossible and creating a shared consensus about what ought to be, via self-belief, courage and perseverance. These lessons transcend politics into the business world and beyond.
