Overview
GenAI is at everyone’s fingertips, meaning everyone can now stuff their CVs and cover letters with all the keywords a recruiter is looking for, making the talent pool much larger and making it difficult for recruiters to find the right people. How can a brilliant data scientist keep themselves ahead of the crowd? In this episode, Deepali Vyas explains that video, not text, is the future of recruitment. As Global Head of AI Data Science and Financial Technology at the recruitment firm Korn Ferry, Deepali has a wealth of experience finding the brightest candidates for the finance world’s biggest roles. She notes that candidate applications have increased tenfold per position since the advent of GenAI platforms and that video is our best hope of showing a side of our professional profile that is authentic and that cannot be easily replicated.
Deepali also recognizes that the essential benefit of video over text is that it allows candidates to present their emotional intelligence and ability to communicate verbally, on top of what they can deliver on the page and the credentials they may have picked up throughout their career. It will be crucial, she believes, for candidates to get used to speaking and selling themselves on video. For Deepali, soft skills, such as being able to communicate benefits, over hard skills, such as coding, will become essentials in the recruiter marketplace. She has synthesized her approach to recruitment into her company, ProFolios.ai, a platform that helps anyone make a winning three-minute video that recruiters will want to watch. This company was informed by Fearless+, an educational platform where Deepali and her colleagues helped over 30,000 students to smooth the transition from college to the workplace.
You may have heard of employer “red flags”, but Deepali also addresses “green flags” to watch out for and when to know that you’re in a work environment that can benefit you. What is most important for Deepali is to look out for collaborative and communicative behaviors in a boss. If your boss is including you in their decision-making, whether it’s asking for consensus or just being transparent about the direction they are taking the company, you know you are in the right place.
