CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new exhibition is coming to Mint Museum Uptown this April celebrating the iconic work of Annie Leibovitz.
“ANNIE LEIBOVITZ / WORK” will open in Uptown on April 27. It features a combination of prints and digital displays highlighting new or rarely seen photographs as well as some of Leibovitz’s well known work.
Her work features artists, musicians, politicians, athletes and more spanning decades, since she launched her career as “Rolling Stone” magazine’s chief photographer in the 1970s.
“Leibovitz’s images manage to capture both — the individual in a private setting that reflects both what the public expects and what we could never see — naked John Lennon curled around clothed Yoko Ono, Whoopi Goldberg immersed in a bath of milk, Steve Martin painted like a Franz Kline striking a pose in front of a Franz Kline,” Jen Sudul Edwards, chief curator and curator of contemporary art at The Mint Museum, said.
Edwards said her photographs have “defined” what people expect popular culture to look like.
Tickets to the exhibition cost an additional $10 on top of museum admission. Typical museum admission is $15 for adults, $10 for those 65 and up or college students with student ID, and free for those 18 and younger or members of The Mint Museum.
The exhibition is slated to run until Aug. 31.
