We had the good fortune of connecting with Alana M. Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alana M., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I decided to start my own business to provide me work-life balance. A major catalyst for me was looking at the social impact that I wanted to make, and I felt that entrepreneurship would afford me the autonomy and flexibility to make that happen through my business and through my personal time. As a project management professional in talent development, I enjoyed a great corporate career, and I took that expertise to organizations of varying sizes and purposes. Being an independent consultant meant I could work across the professional spectrum, servicing Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, and non-profits, expanding my influence and my impact.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My consultancy is focused on helping individuals create and sustain change in their lives and their organizations. . Leveraging over two decades of experience developing learning strategy, leading change management initiates for HR and Talent Management, as well as technology implementations, 2Hill Consulting helps companies manage change in its various forms. As the principal consultant, I am a certified project management professional and certified DISC coach, allowing me to formulate strategy and develop a plan to execute it with excellence. As a speaker, I inspire audiences to discover their talent, passions, and path so they can operate in their purpose. Regardless of the method of delivery I use (keynote speeches, workshop facilitation or writing), my aim is always to inspire people to take action to make their lives and careers more meaningful. I’m most excited about my ability to develop resilient change leaders, who value inclusion, lead with compassion, and think critically about how to solve the world’s problems. I love being part of the solution!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d have to take them to the Breakfast Klub to have some soul food for breakfast Then we’d have to drive past UofH and TSU to see some campus vibes. The last time my friend did come in town, we went to the Wortham theater to enjoy a ballet matinee. It was my first, but I was reminded of how much we have in the arts. And since we still have time in this trip, we’d visit the Buffalo Soldiers Museum to pay homage to those who fought for our country before they were even free. Oh, and as long as it’s not too hot (say June or July), I would recommend that we ride Segways down Buffalo Bayou downtown. Beautiful scenery and a fun activity!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Anyone who knows me or has heard me speak, has likely heard me talk about Paula! Paula McCann Harris has been my mentor since I was a junior in college. She was a pioneer in energy industry, and she paved the way for me (and countless others). But when I think about her support of me, I’m incredibly grateful for her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul McCann. Had her dad not encouraged (or insisted) that she major in Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University, I would never have met her. And just as importantly, if her parents hadn’t supported her the way that they did, she might not have been in the position to to support me when we met. Our relationship is a great example of “it takes a village”, and an important reminder that I am building mentors in my own children.
