Throughout his career, Roy Blunt has developed long-lasting, bipartisan partnerships that have led to major legislative achievements in health care, infrastructure, and national security.
Building on a background as a public servant, university president, and high school history teacher, Roy Blunt was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996 and the U.S. Senate in 2010. Roy was elected by his colleagues to serve as the Majority Whip earlier in his career than any Member of Congress in eight decades, and was elected to the Senate Republican leadership during his first year in the Senate.
He served as Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, the fourth highest ranking leadership position in the Senate Republican Conference. He also served as the Chairman and top Republican on the Rules Committee and the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor/HHS).
