Dr. Henry A. Kissinger was a giant in American foreign policy. His skill and intellect were as unique as his legendary willpower. We hold his beloved Nancy, David & Elizabeth in our thoughts and prayers during this devastating time.
Dr. Kissinger will forever be remembered for his historic role in opening relations between America and China. It led to momentous change around the globe and profoundly meaningful impact for families like mine here at home. My father, Dr. James S. C. Chao, left China in 1949 at the height of the Chinese Civil War and relocated to Taiwan. He never saw his father again. My father was finally reunited with his mother upon resumption of relations with China in 1973, 24 years later. He was finally able to bring my grandmother to America where she spent the last year of her life, surrounded by her loving daughter-in-law and granddaughters.
We were so grateful when Dr. Kissinger recently honored my father, praising him for his significant contributions to America. Thank you, Dr. Kissinger, for your friendship and encouragement. You leave behind a unique legacy in history. Your legacy endures.
