Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) has said the door is still open for a possible 2024 presidential bid.
“However I can serve, I’m still trying to figure that out, but I’m not walking away,” Hogan told Bloomberg.
“If I thought there was a path to success to win the race, then I just said I wouldn’t shut the door to that opportunity,” the two-term former governor said.
Back in March, Hogan said he wouldn’t seek the Republican nomination — after much speculation that he could join the GOP field — but kept the door open for a possible third-party bid for the White House.
Hogan serves as the national co-chairman of No Labels, the political group pushing for a third-party presidential ticket.
He said in August that the group is likely to launch an “alternative” to President Biden and former President Trump, the front-runners of their respective parties, if they become the nominees.
No Labels has urged state Democrats not to interfere with its push for a third-party option.
Biden said the group and its supporters have a “democratic right” to pursue their efforts but said he “obviously” thinks it’s a mistake.
“There’s no reason to — not to do that. Now, it’s gonna help the other guy,” Biden quipped.
Hogan told Bloomberg that he’s focused on getting the GOP “back on track” after Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) ouster from the House Speakership.
