Biography
Dr. Roman Yampolskiy is Associate Professor and Director of the Cyber Security Lab in the Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Louisville. He holds a PhD from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University at Buffalo, where he was a recipient of a four-year National Science Foundation Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship fellowship. Prior to beginning his doctoral studies, Dr. Yampolskiy earned a combined BS/MS (High Honors) degree in Computer Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology. His newest book, AI: Unexplainable, Unpredictable, Uncontrollable, was recently published by Routledge.
Dr. Yampolskiy has served as an Affiliate Academic at the Center for Advanced Spatial Analysis at the University of London. In 2008, he accepted an assistant professor position at the Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville. Previously, he conducted research at the Laboratory for Applied Computing at Rochester Institute of Technology and at the Center for Unified Biometrics and Sensors at the University at Buffalo. Dr. Yampolskiy is also an alumnus of Singularity University and a visiting fellow of the Singularity Institute. In July 2014, he was promoted to Associate Professor.
Dr. Yampolskiy’s primary research interests include behavioral biometrics, digital forensics, pattern recognition, genetic algorithms, neural networks, artificial intelligence, and games. He is the author of over 100 publications, including multiple journal articles and books. His research has been widely cited by scientists and featured in prominent media outlets, including New Scientist, Poker Magazine, and Science World Magazine, as well as on platforms such as BBC, MSNBC, and Yahoo! News, and on radio programs including German National Radio and the The Alex Jones Show. In June 2023, he was one of five global AI experts featured in The New York Times. His work has attracted international attention and has been translated into Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Romanian, and Spanish.
