Sara Fischer: Lara Trump to interview female WH officials for first Fox show
Lara Trump‘s first show as a Fox News host will highlight the key women who helped get her father-in-law President Trump elected and who now serve in his administration, she told Axios in an interview.
State of play: The show, “My View With Lara Trump,” will feature interviews with Attorney General Pam Bondi, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
Why it matters: Lara Trump’s new job at Fox News suggests that the relationship between the network and the administration over the next four years will continue to provide mutual benefits.
- Donald Trump relied on Fox more than any other media company for interviews during his campaign. He has tapped over a dozen former Fox News personalities to serve in his administration.
- Fox has gotten stronger access to President Trump and the administration than almost any other media company. Notably, the network’s star primetime host, Sean Hannity, recently landed an exclusive joint interview with Trump and Elon Musk.
Zoom in: Asked about returning to Fox with her father-in-law in the White House, Lara Trump said, “It doesn’t feel strange to me at all. It feels very natural actually.”
- “I think, naturally, over the course of the past nine years or so, my father-in-law has had the opportunity to meet so many people on a whole host of different fronts. And he has, you know, gotten very close with people who happen to be from Fox News. Obviously a lot of those people are now serving in his administration,” she added.
The big picture: The hiring of a relative so close to a sitting president by Fox News is unprecedented.
- Lara Trump served as an on-air contributor for the network for around two years beginning in March 2021, after Donald Trump left office.
- “I would say that I always kind of have felt like part of the Fox family,” she said. “It’s funny because a lot of the people who I became friends with the first time around working for Fox literally texted me when this was announced and said, ‘Welcome home,’ and it kind of does feel that way to me.”
- In addition to her role at Fox, Trump was also formerly a TV producer for CBS’ “Inside Edition.” Asked how involved she will be day-to-day in the production and direction of the program, Trump said, “I plan to be very involved with all of it,” in terms of the show’s graphics, music and other elements.
Between the lines: The interview and analysis program, which debuts this Saturday at 9pm ET, will “focus on the return of common sense to all corners of American life as the country ushers in a new era of practicality,” Fox News said in a statement announcing the program last week.
- Asked which types of issues she planned to focus on, Trump mentioned education and health.
- Trump is based in Florida. Her show, which is pre-taped, will see her traveling across the country to interview people.
What to watch: For now, Trump is open to expanding her role at Fox News, should the opportunity present itself, she said. She continues to host her own podcast outside of the network called “The Right View with Lara Trump Podcast.”
- Yes, but: She hasn’t left her political interests behind. Trump, who served as the Republican National Committee’s co-chair for several months last year, said she would also be open to returning to politics.
- Trump removed herself from consideration for a Florida Senate seat last year because of the challenges that role would present traveling to D.C. while trying to balance time with her children in Florida.
