Former Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester joined CNBC’s Squawk Box to discuss the Federal Reserve’s latest two-day policy meeting and the outlook for U.S. monetary policy. Mester shared her perspective on what markets and businesses should watch from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, while examining the central bank’s ongoing effort to bring inflation under control and the considerations shaping the path of interest rates.

The conversation comes as policymakers continue to weigh inflation, economic conditions, and the appropriate stance of monetary policy. Drawing on decades of experience within the Federal Reserve System, Mester provides context for understanding how policymakers evaluate economic data, communicate policy decisions, and navigate the tradeoffs involved in maintaining price stability. Her current research interests include monetary policy, central bank governance and communications, inflation, financial regulation, and payments.

As the former President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Mester participated directly in the formulation of U.S. monetary policy from 2014 to 2024. Today, she is a senior policy scholar at Princeton University’s Griswold Center for Economic Policy Studies and an adjunct professor of finance at the Wharton School. Her experience gives audiences an informed perspective on monetary policy, inflation, interest rates, financial markets, and the broader U.S. economy.
