Technology and business leader Kathryn Guarini recently joined the Colby College community as the inaugural participant in the Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence’s Distinguished AI Speaker Series. During her visit, the former IBM Global Chief Information Officer delivered a public presentation, “Responsible Innovation in the Age of AI: Building What Lasts for a World That Moves Fast,” and engaged with students and faculty about the opportunities, risks, and ethical questions emerging alongside the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence.
Guarini emphasized that the extraordinary speed of AI adoption magnifies both its potential benefits and its risks. Conversations throughout her visit explored how AI is reshaping teaching and learning, responsible uses of data, accountability, and the importance of determining where AI can genuinely add value rather than adopting technology simply because it is available. Guarini brings these complex questions into focus for audiences, helping leaders approach innovation with curiosity, responsibility, and a clear understanding of its human and organizational implications.
