SPEAKER TOPIC DESCRIPTIONS    (+/-)

Trends and Imperatives in Health Care in the U.S.

Whether or not “health reform” continues on the current track, the U.S. will experience huge changes in the way health care is purchased and delivered.  In health insurance plans today, an ever-shrinking number of enrollees --about 7%-- are spending 80% of the health care dollars.  This has deep ramifications for insurers, doctors, hospitals, and employers.  A new market is emerging to give that 7% “pareto” group “five-star” care in terms of quality, ethics, and favorable pricing.  Early adopters will thrive…late adopters will not.

Health and Wellness---Myths and Facts

Much of what is “common knowledge” about health, wellness, and prevention (HWP) is fallacious.  All companies should have rigorous HWP programs today…it’s the right thing to do.  Many HWP programs are falling short of their goals.  Cutting edge data show why that is happening.  A new highly effective HWP model is emerging…one that will get terrific measurable results quickly, in an employee-friendly way.

Process Improvement and Worker Health

Process improvement methods --lean, six sigma, etc.--can have terrific results in terms of customer satisfaction, reduced errors, and cost effectiveness.  A major “hidden” side effect is often huge improvement in worker health.  Bad processes stress workers, which in turn leads to increased sick days, workers compensation claims, and increased medical expenses.  Data show that process improvement is an excellent way to improve worker health…even done at a unit or department level.
