For millions of Americans, Dr. Sanjay Gupta is the source for lucid analysis and astute insight on major developments in medicine, personal health and healthcare.  A practicing neurosurgeon, he is the multiple Emmy-award winning chief medical correspondent for CNN, playing an integral role in the network's lead reporting on breaking medical news, providing regular health reports for premiere programming and documentaries, and anchoring the weekend medical affairs show Sanjay Gupta, MD.

During his tenure at CNN, Dr. Gupta has covered some of the world’s most historic and significant events: the attacks of 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia, the 2010 devastating earthquake in Haiti and earthquake- and tsunami-ravaged Japan in 2011.  He also served as an embedded reporter with the U.S. Navy’s medical unit in Iraq, performing life-saving brain surgery five times himself.  Among his many accolades and honors, Dr. Gupta has served as a White House Fellow and special advisor to First Lady Hillary Clinton, garnered the prestigious Peabody and Dupont-Columbia awards for CNN and was named as one of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive.”  In 2009, he was selected by President Barack Obama as the top candidate for U.S. Surgeon General but declined the nomination to continue pursuing his passion for practicing medicine and journalism.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta's concern about the gradual decline of health in average Americans due to obesity inspired him to launch the highly successful Fit Nation on CNN. Starting as a one-hour special, Fit Nation has been expanded into one of America's most successful grass roots initiatives against obesity, and throughout 2010, will follow the progress of Gupta and CNN viewers as they inspire each other towards better fitness.  In this presentation, Gupta traces the social and health-related factors that contribute to the fattening of America, and then explains how we might, and why we must, reverse this unhealthy trend, especially in children.

He presents the latest in medical science but also offers the human side of the struggle, vividly relating the stories of both those who suffer from the disease as well those helping to treat the infected. Additionally, Gupta examines the politics that are serving to advance, and sometimes stifle, the cause of HIV/AIDS awareness.
