Henry M. Paulson, Jr. served under President George W. Bush as the 74th Secretary of the Treasury from June 2006 until January 2009.  As Treasury Secretary, Paulson was the President's leading policy advisor on a broad range of domestic and international economic issues.  Encountering one of the most turbulent financial events in American history, Paulson led an unprecedented intervention by the U.S. Treasury to stabilize the economy and avoid an epic financial collapse. The government efforts initiated under his leadership in 2008, including the Troubled Asset Relief Plan (TARP), helped guide the country through the first wave of economic peril and worked with the leading economies around the globe to respond to this challenge.  Having successfully launched and managed a ground breaking strategic economic dialogue with China, Paulson is acknowledged as a steward of the U.S.-China relationship.

A graduate of Dartmouth University and Harvard Business School, Paulson spent the majority of his career at the investment firm Goldman Sachs, rising through the ranks from his hiring in 1974 to eventually become its Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer in 1998 and its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1999.  Under Paulson's stewardship, Goldman Sachs made a successful transition from a private to public company and thrived as a leading global financial institution. Committed to Preserving Earth's Treasures

In his private life, Paulson has devoted a great deal of time to conservation. He has served as Chairman of the Board of the Peregrine Fund, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Nature Conservancy when they made major reforms in their governance and risk management.  As Co-Chair of the Nature Conservancy's Asia-Pacific Counsel, Paulson launched a conservation effort in China working to establish parks in the Yunnan Province and help preserve Tiger Leaping Gorge.
