ABOUT Kathy Ireland (+/-)
Building a Billion Dollar Brand
Discovered by a scout from Elite Modeling Agency, Kathy Ireland was traveling the world as a fashion model by age 17 and soon reached "supermodel" fame, appearing on covers of countless magazines. However, Kathy's entrepreneurial drive coupled with the desire to break free of the skewed standards of the modeling business gave her the impetus to start her own company. Her billion-dollar business began with a line of socks, then apparel, and today, extends into home furnishings, flooring, accessories and skincare sold throughout the U.S. and in over 28 countries. Kathy Ireland Worldwide is the 23rd Most Powerful Licensed Brand in the world, surpassing Liz Claiborne, Tommy Bahama and Polo Ralph Lauren.
In addition to her extensive responsibilities to her family and business, Kathy also dedicates her energy to a wide range of nonprofit organizations. She is one of the Top 10 Women's Health Advocates in America as named by UCLA and is Ambassador for Youth for the National PTA and National Chair of Family Services and Parenting for Athletes and Entertainers for Kids. She is active in the Special Olympics, and each holiday season, Kathy partners with Feed The Children and underwrites the distribution of food, clothing and toys to children in need across the nation. Kathy is also a pioneer in bringing this country its first and only national wish-granting organization for terminally ill adults, the Dream Foundation, where she serves as a Dream Ambassador, helping to strengthen and build the resources necessary to make dreams come true for families.
