Hill Harper

Hill Harper is the author of the bestseller Letters to a Young Brother, which won two NAACP awards and was named a "Best Book for Young Adults" by the American Library Association in 2007. Winner of several prestigious awards for film and television acting, he currently stars in CSI: NY and his numerous other credits include the films Beloved and He Got Game

Despite his many accolades and accomplishments, Harper recognized that personal achievement was only part of success; to be truly successful meant he had to help others accomplish their goals.  Thus, Hill became a volunteer and spokesman for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, speaking regularly at public schools and other institutions, to pass along the lessons he learned and provide a foundation for others to use as a launching pad for their own success.

Committed to Developing Others' Full Potential

Early in life, Harper recognized that education is the key to unlock potential and open doors.  He pursued his own with significant dedication and fervor and achieved at the highest levels of academia.  But he also knew how hard it is to stay on the straight path and that our youth don't always have the tools to do the right thing - even when they want to.  As a result, Harper wrote the New York Times bestselling book, Letters to a Young Brother, to provide encouragement and guidance to young Black men who are still trying to find their way.  The book provides examples of perseverance in the face of struggle and hope for a better future.  After the success of the first book it was only natural for Hill to put together the companion book, Letters to a Young Sister, also a New York Times bestselling project where he has engaged some of the strongest female voices of this generation to help him convey a message of hope, education and commitment for young sisters.

Scholastic Achiever, Political Activist

Harper graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and graduated with a J.D. (cum laude) from Harvard Law School, as well as with a Masters in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government. A classmate of Barack Obama's from Harvard Law School, Harper participated in "Yes We Can," a music video supporting his Presidential campaign and was a member of the Obama for American National Finance Committee. Harper recently launched a social network, ForRealSolutions.com, aimed at encouraging solutions to some of society's most complex challenges.  Harper's Bazaar once wrote of him, "You might expect Hill Harper to be the next actor vying for the presidency... but he has other things on his agenda."
