A recognized authority on global healthcare policy and economics, Dr. Gail Wilensky is a senior fellow at Project HOPE, where she analyzes and develops policies relating to health reform and ongoing changes in the medical marketplace. In addition, Dr. Wilensky is the President of the Defense Health Board (DHB), a Federal advisory board to the Secretary of Defense providing independent scientific advice on matters relating to operational programs, health policy development, health research programs, and requirements for the treatment and prevention of disease and injury. She also chairs the DHB’s Health Care Delivery Subcommittee, which focuses on ensuring optimal health care and health care delivery across the military health system.
Previously, Dr. Wilensky was Deputy Assistant to President George H.W. Bush for Policy Development, advising him on health and welfare issues. She has also served as Administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration, overseeing the Medicare and Medicaid programs, as well as chaired the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, which advises Congress on payment and other issues relating to Medicare.
