He has a masters degree in communication from San Diego State University and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of San Diego.   Dr. Freiberg and his wife are also active supporters of Voices for Children, an organization dedicated to defending foster children in the courts, and of Monarch High School, a first-of-its-kind high school for homeless children.  Both Freibergs are fervently working to help make this prototype school a model for other cities across the United States.
